Inclement Weather School Dismissal

This time of year we never know what Mother Nature has in store for us.  There may be times when inclement weather causes us to dismiss school early or for an entire day.  I encourage the public to listen to the local radio stations and Kansas City area television stations for school weather related information.  Radio and television stations that we will send school closing information to are: Radio KCHI 98.5 FM; KMZU 100.7 FM; KDWD 99.1 FM; KTTN – FM; and KRMN – FM; and Television KCTV5 and FOX 4 both of Kansas City.
Patrons who are signed up to receive text messages from the school district’s TextCaster message center may also receive a text indicating school cancelations.  The decision to remain in school or cancel school is never a popular decision.  Many factors and communication from other surrounding districts will assist in the decision making.  However, safety for all school children is the main focus when these decisions are made.

Over the past two weeks Christmas and holiday music performances by the Elementary Schools, Middle School and High School Choir and Bands were outstanding.  For those of you who were in attendance for these events you know what I’m talking about, however if you were not in attendance, then you really missed out on excellent examples of talented student performances.  The Basketball teams, Wrestling teams, and District Band participants have also experience much success.  As mentioned in earlier articles, the success stories of Chillicothe R-II students just keep coming.

While many will be staying here to enjoy Christmas and the New Year holidays, others will be traveling to relatives for the special days.  Fortunately for many, Santa has a flexible schedule allowing for the travel season.  And so it is, this time of year brings much excitement to our students and staff alike.  I’ll take this time to wish each of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Until next year, have a safe and enjoyable holiday break.

Roger Barnes
