Water Tower Work Nears Completion
Published: Thursday, October 9, 2008, C-T

CAPTION: Work on the water tower near Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium is just about finished and workers from Ozark Applicators on Wednesday were repainting the Hornet emblem and lettering on the tower’s west side, just in time for the Homecoming game Friday night. Thursday, workers were repainting the lettering of “CHILLICOTHE” on the tower’s east side. Work on the 153-foot tower began in mid-August and included sandblasting, priming and repainting its interior as well as cleaning and repainting the tower’s exterior. The cost of the project is $193,400.

The 153-foot water tower near Grand River Technical School is receiving a face-lift, of sorts, and Chillicothe Municipal Utilities officials say work — which included much sandblasting and painting — is just about finished. “They should be finished up next week if the weather holds out,” said Randy Hamilton, CMU water superintendent.

Since mid-August, the three-man team comprising Ozark Applicators of Van Buren, Mo., have been sandblasting the tower’s entire interior tank where paint was chipped, cracked and, in some cases gone, resulting in some rust spots.

Hamilton explained that the workers removed the old paint inside the tower, primed and repainted it. All that work, he said, has been finished.
