Reeter Resigns From R-2 Board

Chillicothe R-2 board member Eric Reeter is stepping down from the board and seeking employment within the school district. Reeter submitted a letter of resignation to board president Randy Constant, who read it at the conclusion of the regular March meeting held Tuesday night at district headquarters.

In the letter, Reeter explains that he is seeking the position of adult paramedic instructor at the Grand River Technical School — a position formerly held by Darrell Wright who was recently promoted to Chillicothe Department of Emergency Services Director. Reeter says he is resigning because state statutes prohibit an employee of the school district to serve on the school board. “The only regret I have is that I was unable to finish serving my final two years on the board, but when God opens doors of opportunity, you must take a step of faith and allow Him to lead," Reeter said. Reeter was elected to the board in April 2005, was re-elected in 2008 and served as president of the panel during the 2007-08 school year.

In his resignation letter, Reeter explains that he has enjoyed his years on the board and not only tried to base his decisions on what he felt the majority of his constituents wanted, but what was best for the students of the district. He also touted the district's staff, saying that the board is "fortunate" to have staff members who are passionate about educating children. "There is not a more dedicated, caring bunch of people anywhere in the state," Reeter said. He went on to note that he is proud to have represented the staff. Reeter's letter closed with thanking the constituents who elected him to two terms.

The board did not formerly accept Reeter's resignation last (Tuesday) night, but will do so during the April 21 meeting. The person filling the vacancy will be appointed to the board — an action that could happen in May, at the earliest or in June, at the latest.
