C-T Photo In a unanimous decision, Chillicothe R-2 school board members tapped David Meneely, the executive director of the Livingston County Farm Service Agency, to fill a vacancy on the board. The action occurred Friday morning during the open session of a special meeting held at district headquarters. Meneely was one of three candidates vying for the seat formerly held by Eric Reeter, who recently resigned from the panel to pursue an employment position within the school district. Former board member Rick Baker, who lost his bid for re-election in April, interviewed for the spot as did former candidate Robbie Skipper. Board president Tom Chapman asked the majority of questions — first to Baker, then to Meneely and finally to Skipper. The questions ranged from topics dealing with the candidate’s qualifications and community service to their feelings on the challenges faced by the district and the relationship school board members should have with R-2 staff. Following the interviews, board members voted by written ballot, with board secretary Kristi Newlin collecting the ballots and reading each ballot aloud. Following the 5-0 decision, Meneely said he was both pleased and surprised at the board’s decisive vote in his favor. “I am pleased that they selected me,” Meneely said. He added, “I do think they had good candidates to choose from so their decision would have been good either way.” Meneely said that he has always been interested in serving on the R-2 board, but has not done so because his current job is already in the public service sector. However, he said that he has always felt that residents should volunteer within their communities. |
