Chillicothe R-2
Board Discusses MAP Test Results While there were five issues slated for discussion during Friday morning's special meeting at district headquarters, board members discussed only two subjects: the 2007 MAP Test scores and the MSBA Superintendent search proposal. According to Dale Wallace, superintendent, the discussion revolving around the district's latest MAP test scores lasted around three hours. During that time, R-2 Assistant Superintendent Dave May gave a general overview of the results from last spring's MAP testing and how those scores relate to the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Each building administrator reviewed the scores from their students, explained how they are interpreting the results and spoke of how they will address areas of weakness. Overall, according to Wallace, the district's scores were down slightly because two subgroups at the Chillicothe Middle School - the free and reduced meal subgroup and the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) subgroup - did not meet the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals set by the No Child Left Behind Act. According to the No Child Left Behind Act, if a subgroup fails to make AYP, the school building and so the district does not make AYP. May said Monday morning that the MAP test scores were a “mixed bag” for the district. “We were recognized for Distinction in Performance on the MAP test, which is a wonderful achievement, established by the state. But yet, on the federal level with the No Child Left Behind Act, we failed to meet the target level. It's a good news, bad news situation.” May said that this year, well over 200 schools in Missouri were placed in School Improvement this year, which means those schools had not made AYP two years in a row. Next year, as the AYP goals increase, that number will grow considerably, May said. |
