Symphonic Intermission
C-T Photo/Catherine Stortz Ripley Kansas City Symphony to Perform in Chillicothe The Kansas City Symphony, under the baton of Assistant Conductor Steven Jarvi, will perform at Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center in Chillicothe on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 4 p.m. This concert was originally scheduled for February 2008, but was postponed due to winter weather conditions. Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony, along with Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture and Britten’s Four Sea Interludes will be performed. “In late 2007, the Missouri Arts Council was asked by the Kansas City Symphony to choose a community which could not normally afford to have the orchestra come to their community. The symphony had certain criteria for the community, and Chillicothe met that criteria and was chosen to host the Kansas City Symphony in February,” said Carol Gregg, Missouri Arts Council and Missouri Citizens for the Arts board member. The Sunday afternoon concert is hosted by volunteers from the community. “All of the proceeds from the concert will go to the Performing Arts Center Maintenance Fund under the Chillicothe Educational Foundation,” Gregg said. “This gift will benefit the entire community, not only through the symphony’s performance, but it will help us keep the Performing Arts Center as nice as it is today.” Tickets for this concert are available now through the Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce, Bank Midwest, Chillicothe State Bank and Citizens Bank & Trust in Brookfield, Chillicothe and Trenton. Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $5 for students kindergarten through 12 with a student ID. Tickets issued for the original February 2008 concert date will be honored at this performance. |
