Just 12 minutes into the filing period for the April 8, 2008 election, four candidates had filed for the three seats available on the Chillicothe R-2 School Board.

Michael Leamer, 38, of 12265 Liv 422, was the first to throw his hat into the ring this (Tuesday) morning at R-2 headquarters, signing at 8 a.m. One minute later, Robbie Skipper, 30, of 8492 Liv 508, filed and Eric Reeter, 39, of 11895 Liv 2355, filed at 8:02 a.m. Just 10 minutes later incumbent David Williams, 43, of 17672 Liv 306, filed for re-election in what would be his third term on the board.

This will be Leamer's second try for a seat on the board after falling just shy of winning enough votes for one of the two available seats in the 2007 election - the most contested Chillicothe R-2 school board race in 33 years. Skipper's run for a school board seat will also be his second after also coming up short last April. Reeter, who is currently serving as the R-2 board president, will be trying for his second term on the board having been elected in 2005. If elected, Williams will be starting his third consecutive term in office following the April election. He was first elected to office in 2002.

John Cook, who has served on the board for six consecutive years (from 2002 to present) and also filled a seat for nine years during the 1970s, has not filed for re-election and says he doesn't plan on doing so. “I think that younger people - people with children in school - should fill the seats,” Cook explained this morning.
