Chillicothe R-2 Board Filing Period to Open Tuesday

Two Chillicothe R-2 School Board seats will be up for grabs in April and those interested in running for election can declare their candidacies as early as next week. The filing period for the April 7, 2009 election opens Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 8 a.m. at the Chillicothe R-2 administration headquarters in south Chillicothe. The filing period closes on Jan. 20 at 5 p.m.

The seats currently held by incumbents Julie McCoy and Rick Baker are available. McCoy, who has served on the board since 2000, is finishing up her third consecutive term on the board. Baker, who was elected in 2006, is completing his first term.

To be eligible for the board, a candidate must be a citizen of the United States, a resident taxpayer of the Chillicothe R-2 School District who has resided in the state one year preceding their election and must be 24 years old. All newly-elected board members must also complete 16 hours of orientation and training. The candidates names will appear on the ballot in the order of their respective filing dates and times.
