CHS Musicians Honored at Band Concert

Several band students were honored Wednesday evening at Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center during the spring concert presented by Chillicothe High School's instrumental music department.

The evening included several pieces performed by the Chillicothe High School jazz band and symphonic band as well as solos and small ensembles. Dave Goodwin and Sarah Cavanah are the school's band directors.

The evening concluded with the distribution of several awards and a tribute to the armed forces.

The most prestigious award - the John Philip Sousa Award - was given to Kate Lindley and Chris Peterson. The Charles W. Maupin Award was presented to Megan Moore. The Louis Armstrong Jazz Award was presented to John Riekena.

Wednesday night's concert was dedicated to the senior band members. They are Weston Baker, Sally Baldwin, Jamie Cunningham, Logan Gilliland, Amanda Ireland, Kate Lindley, Heidi McCoy, Megan Moore, Warren Nichols, Shontel Oesch, Chris Peterson, Katelyn Ralston, John Riekena, Ryan Riggs, Jordan Schneider, Chelsie Vaughn.

Other special award winners during the evening were Jon Martin, most improved; Bradee Gabel, outstanding freshman; Chelsea Wade, outstanding sophomore; and Donald Heaton, outstanding junior.

Students earning band letters for the first time were: Jaimie Baker, Courtney Clark, Zach Colvin, Lauren Crawford, Jamie Cunningham, Lauren Dietzschold, Tim Dudley, Bradee Gabel, Ben Griffin, Amanda Ireland, Aaron Kerr, Libby Kline, Heidi McCoy, Hannah Morgan, Shontel Oesch, Katelyn Ralston, Mahonri Reyes, Ryan Riggs, Jacob Stull, Andrew Thomas, Chelsie Vaughn.

Repeat letter awards were presented to Shannon Baker, Weston Baker, Sally Baldwin, Barbara Boley, Jessica Boyer, Madeline Brick, Meredith Brick, Ari Coleman, Sarah Ewing, Samantha Figg, Kila Fletchall, Logan Gilliland, Ian Gramenz, Donald Heaton, Zach Ireland, Vanessa Jones, Kate Lindley, Jon Martin, Caitlin Mitchell, Megan Moore, Chris Peterson, Lily Pyrtle, Daniel Riekena, John Riekena, Cassandra Sherrow, Beth Skipper, Cari Stockard, Ellyn Turner, Chelsea Wade, and Trent Worman.

Donald Heaton was also recognized for having received honorable mention to the All-State Band.
