However, points are taken away from a class for each nickel, dime, quarter or paper currency in their jar. At the end of the week, the class with the most points will be named the winner. All money raised through the event is earmarked to fund spirit activities throughout the year. All students vote for Homecoming king and queen on Thursday and later that evening, from 8 to 9 p.m., a bonfire and pep rally will be held on the field northeast of the CHS gymnasium.

Chillicothe High School football supporters were painting the town red (and black) this weekend to prepare for homecoming week. Activities start Tuesday and continue with week’s highlights of the homecoming parade at 2:20 p.m. Friday, the football game at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by the coronation; and a dance on Saturday. Diane VanHoutan (above), mother of CHS Hornets Justin VanHoutan and A.J. VanHoutan, was among many supporters lining the streets and painting the windows of businesses on Saturday and Sunday.
The Football Dads worked most of Wednesday preparing the football field at Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium for Friday night’s Chillicothe High School Hornets Homecoming football game against the St. Joseph: Lafayette Fighting Irish. During the football season, the Football Dads usually get the work done in just one evening prior to a home football game, but because Friday’s game is a Homecoming game, the extra time and effort were put into sprucing up the field. CHS Celebrates Homecoming
Week Activities for the Chillicothe High School Homecoming week are under way and students are gearing up for the annual homecoming game which will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday against the Savannah Savages. This year's homecoming theme is “Wild Wild West.” The CHS homecoming week, sponsored by the student council, includes a variety of activities for the students to participate in.
The events began on Monday when students participated in “Fake an Injury/Doctor Day.” According to Principal Tom Anderson, many students participated in this spirit activity and the high school looked like a surgical unit straight from a hospital. On Tuesday, the high school was filled with Superman and Wonderwoman look-a-likes as the students participated in “Superhero Day.” The halls of CHS were filled Wednesday with students dressed in fashion from the 1980s and an 80s trivia contest was held a lunch. Students will continue the Wild Wild West homecoming theme on Thursday as they celebrate “Cowboys and Indians Day.” Before school on Thursday, officials report that a “turkey bowling contest” will be held. In keeping with past tradition, students will dress in red and black on Friday to show their Hornet spirit and before school on Friday, a doughnut eating contest will be held. Best dressed awards were to be given out throughout the week. Close This Window |

C-T Photo / Catherine Stortz Ripley Traditional events keep CHS in 'Danger Zone' for Homecoming '05 Dry and mild weather set the stage for a successful Chillicothe High School Homecoming week that culminated with a big football win and the naming of royalty Friday night. The football Hornets more than fulfilled the crowd's appetite for victory by blanking the St. Joseph: Lafayette Fighting Irish 41-0 at Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium. Following the game, senior Katie Meyers, daughter of Larry and Becky Meyers, was crowned queen; and senior Andrew Campbell, son of Gary and Beverly Campbell, was crowned king. The theme for Homecoming 2005 was "Danger Zone." Also providing glamour to the week of activities was the annual parade held that afternoon. The junior class captured first-place honors in the class competition of the parade, taking the title away from the current senior class that has won the class competition for the past three years. The class competition is a year-long event that the Student Council sponsors with the winner being awarded a movie at Grand 6 Theater in May. The Hunting and Fishing Club was the overall winner of this year's parade. Long-time school supporters David and Darla Macoubrie were chosen by the CHS Student Council to serve as grand marshals for the parade and were also recognized during the coronation that evening. The Macoubries, both graduates of Carrollton High School, moved to Chillicothe in 1965. David has practiced law since 1965 and Darla is retired from the retail field. They are supporters of youth activities, largely because of their two sons, four grandsons and four granddaughters. The homecoming dance was Saturday night in the high school commons. "Homecoming last week was one of the best we have seen at CHS," said Jeanne Lair, who with her husband, Mike, serves as CHS Student Council adviser. "It appeared that students definitely enjoyed the activities of the week."

Chillicothe R-II Homecoming 2003
The Chillicothe High School junior class float earned top honors for its entry in the 2003 homecoming parade Friday afternoon. There were 28 entries in the annual event, which also featured Dr. James and Martha Eden as grand marshals. C-T Photo / Catherine Stortz Ripley CHS Celebrates Homecoming The football Hornets celebrated a 40-13 victory over the Lafayette Fighting Irish on Friday night. The theme for Homecoming was "Another One Bites the Dust." Bob Levy, CHS principal, said that the school put emphasis into the entire week of homecoming and it was all great. Another activity that made this year's event a success was the annual parade on Washington Street Friday. Dr. James and Martha Eden both served as grand marshals of the parade. Dr. Eden served as Chillicothe school's superintendent for 19 years and also ran the game clock at football games for many years. The CHS student council chose the grand marshals. The homecoming dance was held Saturday night at the CHS commons. "The crowd was enormous and the disc jockey was wonderful," Levy said. One of the most anticipated events of homecoming is the crowning of the king and queen. After announcing the names of all female and male class attendants from grades 9-11, the audience was then provided with the names of the senior queen and king candidates. Sharla Fender was crowned queen and Daniel Meyer was crowned king following the homecoming game. Each queen candidate was escorted down the middle of the football field by a king candidate.
