Our students are in grades 2 and 3 in the Chillicothe RII School District.

Mission Statement

We recognize that every student that attends Field School is a unique and special individual. We accept, as our mission and goal, the responsibility to help each student attain his or her highest learning potential. We propose to accomplish our mission by:

• Setting standards of basic instructional skills required of all students
• Maintaining high expectations for students and ourselves
• Keeping open a line of communication between the school and the home
• Continuing to seek and implement new ways to improve the educational program
• Striving to determine the most efficient teaching and instructional methods for each student

Our emphasis will be on student success and doing what is best for the student.

We feel TEAMWORK is the key to success! We ask that parents and students do the following:

• Get to know the school.
• Become familiar with the teachers and staff. We are here to help you. Give us an opportunity to do so.
• Study and learn as much as you can. We will always be available to help with any problems you may have; but, YOU must ask for help.

Dismissal Procedures

Bus riders will be dismissed at the 3:05 p.m. bell. All other students will be dismissed when the early buses are on the way (3:10 p.m.). Those students that are picked up for choir, scouts, gymnastics, etc. need to wait and leave with the second bell.

The bicycle racks are located at the south end of the building. No student is to exit or enter through the breezeway. The east door is the door for entering and exiting the building. The doors on the west and south will be locked at all times. If you pick your child up, please wait in the entry hall by the main door. It is difficult for some students to stay on task when they see parents in the hall. If you need to pick your child up early, please notify the office. Parents, we do appreciate your cooperative and support with these procedures. Our utmost concern is the safety of the students.

Lunchroom

Breakfast is served daily at 7:45 a.m. - 8:05 a.m. Students eating breakfast are to eat as soon as they arrive at school. If a student rides a bus that is late, they will be allowed to eat after the designated times; however, walkers and early bus riders are not allowed to eat late. Lunch is served beginning at 11:00 a.m. for second grade and 11:40 a.m. for third grade. Teachers will not be responsible for taking care of breakfast/lunch/milk money. Also, please have your lunch box marked with your name on the outside.

Following is a list of lunch and breakfast fees:

Child's Lunch - $1.35
Child's Reduced - $0.40
Adult Lunch - $1.80
Additional Milk - $0.25
Child's Breakfast - $0.75
Child's Reduced - $0.30
Adult Breakfast - $1.00

If you bring your lunch, you may purchase a carton of milk for $0.25.

The collection box is on the front counter and all money is to be put in this box. Students are to put breakfast/lunch/milk money in an envelope. Please write the student's name, teacher's name, and the amount of money on the front of the envelope and deposit it in the box. If questions arise about breakfast/lunch/milk money, students and/or parents should be referred to the office.

The lunch program is still on the computer system.

CAPTION: Field School students enjoyed Valentine's Day cupcakes as part of their lunch. Cafeteria baker Cheryl Wood made 240 cupcakes during the morning for the special day. The cupcakes were decorated with pink frosting and had Sweetheart candy on top.

Lunch Room Policies

Lunchroom expectations are posted in the multi-purpose room. The lunchroom supervisor is in charge of the lunchroom and students are to follow the directions of that person. Students are expected to follow these rules at lunch:

• Talk in a quiet voice.
• Eat only your food.
• Do not play with food.
• Keep your hands and feet to self.

Remember, NO SODA POP OR GLASS CONTAINERS are allowed in the lunchroom.

Security

We are working hard to step up security and safety in our schools. One way we are doing this is by requiring all staff members, sub teachers, and guests to wear a name badge identifying them as an employee or guest of Field School. You need to stop by the office and pick up one of these badges when you enter the building.

Hy-Vee Smiles for Education Program

Each week for 10 weeks, Hy-Vee will hold a drawing to select 10 winning students for a total of 100 winners by the end of our "Smiles for Education" program. Each of those students will receive a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop computer, and each of their schools will receive a donation of $5,000 from Hy-Vee. Winning schools and students may also be featured on the local TV news. We encourage parents, teachers, and staff from your school to join us in the program by visiting their local Hy-Vee store and registering their students' names for the drawing. Help us celebrate our children and communities as we donate up to $500,000 to local schools in Iowa, Kansas, South Dakota, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, and Illinois.

Library

We have a beautiful library. Our librarian is Mrs. Betty Sue Radcliff. Stop by and visit us any time.

Parents: If you are eating a school lunch, please call the school by 9:00 a.m. This is when we turn the lunch count into our kitchen. Chillicothe R-2 third-grade students performed a Christmas program Tuesday night at Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center. The program, “Christmas at the O.K. Corral,” was produced by Dan Venner, music instructor. The setting for the program was in the old west - the O.K. Corral, near a small town called Snowy Gulch on Christmas Eve. The program also featured Trevor Shira as “Bubble Gum Bart,” (the bad guy); Kerena Girardin as “The Candy Cane Kid” (the hero); Ian Smith as Santa Claus; a vocal solo by Bobbi Jo Lovett and several songs performed by the citizens of Snowy Gulch (the third graders).
