CAPTION: Dewey School kindergarten and first-grade students were among several elementary school classes who attended a skit presented by Janet Barnhart’s eighth-grade drama class on March 25, 2009, in the commons area of Chillicothe Middle School. The play, “Cinderella,” told the story of a basketball-loving prince who became infatuated with “Cinderella,” who wore basketball shoes.

CAPTION: Kindergarten students from Patricia Adkison’s class at Dewey School learn about the path a letter takes once it arrives at the post office. To help understand the process, the students wrote letters, addressed envelopes with their home addresses, dropped them through the mail slot at the post office and then listened to Natalie Stephens (right), lead sales and service associate at the post office, explain how letters go through the cancellation process and are placed for proper distribution. Three kindergarten classes visited the post office today and four yesterday.

CAPTION: It was school business as usual in Nancy Nowland's kindergarten class although five students were absent February 7, 2008 due to illness. School principal Pam Brobst said that by mid-morning, the school building had an attendance rate of only 86 percent, with 36 students gone due to illness. According to district officials some school buildings this week have had attendance rates drop by between 10 and 17 percent.

CAPTION: Dewey School kindergarten and first-grade students got off the bus and headed to their classrooms just before 8 a.m. this (Thursday) morning after two consecutive days without classes because of inclement weather and hazardous road conditions. The Chillicothe R-2 School District has two “snow days” built into its 2007-08 school calendar: Jan. 21, 2008 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day and March 24, 2008, the Monday after Easter Sunday. School district officials say any more missed school days due to hazardous road conditions will be tacked on the end of the 2007-08 school year in May.

CAPTION: First grade students performed “Around the World at Christmas Time” to a large crowd last (Wednesday) night at Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center. The students, under the direction of Debra Brick, sang several songs during their holiday performance.
